Laminated Panels with Foam Cores

01/02/2009 1:11 AM

Many years ago I was at a trade show and remember seeing a vendor booth by EAR in which they offered a variety of laminated panels. Different core materials (End Grain Balsa, Low density closed cell foam, etc ) were available as were a wide assortment of outer skins (fiberglass, aluminum, wood veneers, etc)

Some of the products were geared to OEM requirements for paneling the interiors of corporate jets.

I could not find them in spite of a variety of phrases in the search engine.

Can some one aim me in the right direction for EAR or the generic equivalent?

Thanks

L.J.

Last I looked they were available in a variety of materials, but targeted at specific industries like the one you mention.

So narrowing down your application would help alot.

I'm looking for cored panels, preferably bidirectional fiberglass over closed cell PVC, for general use and in a variety of thicknesses.

I'd use it wherever it's cost effective as a lightweight and stronger alternative to wood.

Ahh

Then some one like:

http://www.panelteccorp.com/html/materials.html for non-housing

and something like a SIP for housing?

Thank you!

The link on the structural panels answered a question raised long ago when This Old House featured a barn built using cored panels for exterior walls.

The other link answered the immediate question for a generic material. I'll investigate further when they open for phone calls on Monday.

Thanks for the support!

As memory serves, small lots are also readily available for a number of composite materials from Aircraftspruce.com

Luck

Interesting!

I've been doing business with Aircraft Spruce and Specialty for over 30 years including composite materials like Divinycell cores.

It never crossed my mind to look there for pre-laminated panels.

I'll check it out. Thanks

Don't think I've seen foam core there, but a variety of phenolic and composites, as well as do it yourself honeycomb.

This is driving me nuts. I had a bunch of samples from (I am almost sure) Hexcel which included various cores (several honeycombs, foam, balsa) and many facings (aluminum, glass, carbon, etc.) I think Hexlite is their name for such prefab panels, but I can't seem to easily come up with that on their website.

On the other hand maybe I am thinking of Plascore. Plascore is a polypropylene honeycomb core that is relatively low price (and used for boats, for that reason.) Plascore provides prefab panels with their PP core, and others.
