Closed Threads and Resolved Problems

01/06/2009 6:01 AM

We the CR4 members usually try our best to advise our fellow members in sorting out their doubts and problems.

However they (I am no exception) normally don't come back and report their final solutions. These final identifications and solutions of the problems may create a databank for us to look at a later date. These may be a goldmine for us practicing engineers.

can CR4 maintain these data (original thread and solutions). The threads may be closed once the original thread owner marks the post as "Solution" and records his findings ?

Great idea.So many times we see a problem that looks familiar to one seen before and it would help to be able to site a past post rather than start all over again.

I agree, that sort of databank would be really useful.

Hello sb,

hope you are well?

I think your idea it great! I know CR4 has several indexes but none the general public can easily access. I have started to keep details of my own searches but, it only relates to the threads I posted on!

Your idea is excellent.

Have a wonderful new year!...........

Thanks and wish you too have a great new year.

I too keep a tag of the post and I do something better, I print it (acrobat) and keep it indexed subject wise in folders (and tree it to subfolders) - Hydraulic- valves. Hydraulic- Piping etc and the useful links, etc also are downloaded there.

But what I miss always is that the original man never show up in the end and say "yes I solved the problem, and this was it "

So we have a 100 conjenctures and we never know whether we could solve. I believe, that we all do our bit of work in solving it and the result might be not only educating but a moral booster too.

In our organisation we have a Knowledge management portal when any problem is resolved, we upload it, i hope Cr4 does it globally for our community.

Hello sb,

I started to save certain things because it saves time on searches. It also shows that the same type of question is often asked with just days or hours between the first and the latest! I think the search system on CR4 is a pain in the arse. I have tried to find things and often end up going round in circles. That is not good for the sponsors and not good for the site. Why not have a google type search but just for things discussed on the site? All the choices over complicates things far too much. Well that is how I feel. I have steered away from using the search system here because it is no bloody good! If google had the same kind of criteria they would be worth a few hundred million rather than billions! The system stops others searching on site as well. I am no ignoramus but when you are sent round in circles and never get an answer there is something wrong. Of course it could be me!? but I think not. I hope Admin are looking as it does need making easier.

Take care..............

You could use Google to search this forum specifically by using the following in the search bar:

site:cr4.globalspec.com *desired search*

I always use this tool to search websites since it is always better than the site's individual search tool

Hello vainqueur:

I appreciate your help on the search engine. I naturally think "GOOGLE", but there is a lot of specialist engines already on this site!

Thanks and take care........

Happy new year............
