steam pressure measurement

01/09/2009 8:19 PM

Could someone advise me the location of steam pressure transmitter. I am going to use the following method for mounting PT.

1. Mounting PT above the connection tap (without using seal port) and taps is on the top of steam line.

2. Mounting PT below the taps using a seal port (taps is on the top of the pipe also). impulse line is down then back up to PT.

Which method is better?

Thanks,

Nanky

your first case to mount PT above connection without sealpot than you can use a pigtail to mount directly but you have to look into maintenance point of veiw for the PT .Also pigtail will keep some condensate to keep the PT sensing element safe from high temperature of steam

if you mount PT below tapping than it will be more safe to PT and Also you can mount to the area where it is easy for maintenance and calibration .but than condensate head should be deducted from the PT range ie elevating the range to get the precise pressure reading.

I think this option will solve your problem

Nanky,

I would stay away from mounting on BOTTOM of steam lines.

Any moisture condensing along the steam line and not collected by steam traps (collecting off bottom of steam line), may affect the accuracy of readings and also damage of internal measurement components.

Insure location is where clean, dry steam will be the condition.

Hi there,

Just another two cents worth.

Usually steam lines generate alot of rust internally with time. If you mount the transmitter under the line - the rust will eventually build up and block your impulse line. As stated above always mount above the line with a pig tail.

Craig
