Can you give a little more information please? Perhaps a photograph of the circuit,panel or module its self, or description and location of the "module". Maybe even a copy of a mechanical drawing of same would help. You have given no useful hints as to what you are speaking of.Sorry.

Ease of repair. Components are placed in single device as to it function in the over all system. Example would be the power supply. So in the field the tech is not trouble shooting to the component level. Which can be time consuming and time is money when equipment is down. The module can be easily tested and replaced as necessary.
