temperature sensor

01/12/2009 12:53 AM

I found a temperature sensor/switch(I am not sure) which when dipped in liquid,a bulb glows dimly connected in series to it. Now,when the temperature of the liquid reaches a particular value, the bulb glows brightly. Can anyone tel me what this sensor is and how it works?

Hi there,

If you do not have an external voltage connected in the circuit - then it sounds as if you have a temperature sensor known as a thermocouple. You have two dissimilar materials and they generate voltage potential as the temperature changes. Seebeck discovered this principle.
