Stainless Steel Tanks

I want to desing a tank that holds 100 cubes of water. The requirements are as follow: 15m long x 3m wide. Fabricated with stainless steel. Can anyone please inform me of what the hight should be. Do I need to look additional bracing?

15*3*?=100

L * w * h

15*3*2.22=100

or 100/ (15*3)

2.22 meters high

Just to add to RVZ717's comments - 2.22 m will be the minumum height you could use - you may want to add some for over-capacity/overflow capabilities.

Regarding reinforcing - it would probably be more cost effective/recommended (at least an angle section along the top edges), otherwise you will need to use extra thick plates for the sides:

............. oh yeah - the stiffeners on the top edges are assuming you are going with an open top tank (i.e. no roof).

Are you planning on having it fully enclosed? If so - you will need provisions (relief valve or adequate opening to atmosphere), and depending on the inlets (pressure from pumps) to ensure that you do not pressurize it and turn it into the realm of "pressure vessels".

The numbers still need to be run to determine the wall thickness and stiffeners required.

You can use 12 GA SS Sheet metal for the job. You can make formed channel out of the 12 GA SS that is 2"x2"x2" and weld them into place along the bottom and sides. You can use the sides to slide a square tubing in for legs with a 3/8" bolt passing through to lock it in place. The formed channel ribs can be spaced 60" apart and so can the legs. You might want to add some channels horizontally along the sides between the vertical channels that take the legs.

At the top of the sides of the tank you'll need to add some bends at 90 degrees. the first bend at 1" and the second at 2", these don't have to be at that dimension, they can be at any dimension. The point is they need to be there to add rigidity to the sides of the tank.

After welding the tank together it needs to be leak tested. The easiest way to do that is use a die solution. You spray the red die on one side of the weld and a white powdery spray on the opposite side. This will identify any leaks.

Just one more note: 304 SS should be enough to handle what ever liquid you have in mind to hold in that take.

Go for 2.5m just to be on the safe side. If it's for outside, you may want lower and longer, to make an ornament from it so its not such an eye sore, or if indoor, go as high as you can :)

We could provide you with either a horizontal or cylinderical tank that would likely wiegh less and perhaps offer a smaller foot print.

What do you propose storing.

Would be happy to work up a quote for you.

have you considered the reliability of a custom made tank

leaks and missed welds mean lots of problems

will it pass osha inspections it must have an ul 142 rating, and must be d.o.t. aproved if you want to transport it.

can you attach meters and pumps to the fittings. best bet is to buy a good name tank here is a link to place where you can get tanks, tank meters and all kinds of pumps,metered and non metered pump handles and fluid delivery systems for your aplications.
