RC Planes

01/12/2009 3:54 PM

Hi, Are the wires attached to the rudder supposed to cross inside the plane, next to where they connect to the motor with the two prong things(Scientific term)? Just wondering, mine snapped, and I'm wondering how to fix them. Thanks

You'd just connect 'em so that right joystick gives a right turn with the plane flying away from you.

(This is only true in the northern hemisphere with your back to wind and the plane flying the right way up)

Which, translated out of cat, means that, with right joystick, the rudder should move to the right of the centerline of the fuselage when viewed from the rear.

Trying to fly the plane before you straighten out the connections could be a little exciting.

How'd you manage to snap them wires??? I assume it was piano wire(?) - which would rip most model planes apart before snapping.

It was more like plasticy fishing wire, and for some reason the plane is stronger than the wire

They are crossed to maximize the angle at which they penetrate the aft fuselage, thereby minimizing the distance for which a clearance hole must be provided.

You can uncross them, if you can stand a little binding where they will rub the fuselage entry holes, but you must also then reverse the rudder servo control. This is a slide (or DIP) switch located on the transmitter. Make sure you check the direction before you attempt flight. Right turn input on the transmitter control should swing the rudder to the right. If your transmitter has four channels, it is probably channel 4. Check before flight. Best of luck.

Hello Bondy,

how are you? So we have flying pigs now? (Your avatar(

Is this wire suppose to move the rudder physically. Or is there a motor to move it. And is the wire used as a type of lever?

What sort of plane have you got then? Any pics or have you just made it?

I had a kit once but could never fly it................

...........................I was scared of flying. Sorry, could not resist.

Take care,

Yes, flying pigs are the future. Do the wires need to cross inside the body of the plane? link to it is here: http://www.hobbyplanet.co.uk/product.php/16/2-channel-radio-control-mustang-fast3 I always fly it, just it usually ends in a crash. When it broke, the propeller snapped, the gearing for it also snapped and the tail came off. That's all fixed now, bar the wires on the rudder

I knocked up a diagram, but I cant work out how to pit it in this post, so it's now my avatar, copy it into another program and hopefully it will no pixellate too much to see

Basically, the two poles which are at a slant, are the arms, which are attached to the motor in the middle, and then the two wires run through the side of the plane, to the rudder

The "motor with the two pronged things" is the rudder servo.

Re: RC Planes

Hello Bondy,

How you doing? When people ask what you do for a hobby, and you say fly my RC plane,..........that is a fib right?............You fly it as a pass-time and MEND it as a hobby?

With regard to you drawing, which is now your Avatar, ...........it is all I can do to see the outline of my Monitor, let alone read the words on your Avatar! I might be good, and the jury is still out on that,...........But, I'm not that good!

Lots of times I have wanted to illustrate my ideas and I just cannot figure out how to copy the correct 'path' or part of a file to sent it to CR4. Very frustrating. I have almost sixty files to send to a Member and just can't figure how, is that sad or what! I know I am useless btw.

Why is it I can copy on-line pics but can't copy from my computer? Maybe cos I am going daft in my old age? If anyone can tell me an easy way round this problem that affects Bondy and me at least, please tell us?

You ever been in a glider Bondy?

It's a great way to see your 'Gloucester Old-Spots'. Great looking pig, ..................and the Gloucester old spot is as well!

I have not done any RC, my reactions are a bit to slow but, it is one of my passions! I would like a 5th scale model of those huge 'dumpers' they use in mines. I would be in heaven!. The nearest I can get is one that is already built to order at about fifty squizzillion thingies, or a solid brass finished working model at around £600.00. I just want to make it up. Only another RC Fan would understand I suppose?

Hey, Mr Chris Leonard, if you are watching, why can't I copy drawings or illustrations from word direct to CR4? Take care Chris. Babybear.

Take care Bondy, I am gona do some searching for ya!

The first youtube link is the 1 I have, but mine's in green, and the second video is not. I suppose flying is a pastime, and fixing it is a hobby. btw, I have never been in a glider, and old spots are delicious.

Just 1 thing, Do the wires coming from the steering servo need to be as tight as they can be?

No, just tight enough to remove any play/backlash/slop although a little slack won't hurt whereas too tight could strain the servo two pronged motor thingy.

Hi friends

Yes, you can cross the wire from the rudder to inside the RC Planes from where they are connected to the motor.

Regards

Sid
