12 VDC Water Pump

01/19/2009 2:54 AM

I urgently looking for a 12VDC waterpump that can replace the pump i am using now at the moment, because the pump's quality is not good enough for the job.

I am using the 12VDC waterpump of a caravan tap. I need something better than that. The pump is mount in a control system and pump is put on and off at short intervals. I am stationed in Somerset-West and need a supplier nearby. I must finish my project now and need urgent help. Thanks.

Koch,

In addition to 12VDC drive requirement, you must also specify the flow rate and the discharge pressure for selecting a proper TYPE of pump.

If small capacity and medium pressures are involved , you may find a local Jabsco dealer ( check yellow pages -under pumps)handy to help you.30 GPM at 30 PSI - your specs should read something like this for sending out the enquiry. If possible, also add water temperature and suction condition.

Jabsco has a flexible elastomer vane impeller as the pumping element.

If very large flow rate and low heads are involved you may find Centrifual Pumps as a better choice. All depends on these two factors.

If the water is for potablepurpose, specify Food Grade elastomer material for flexible impeller.

Trust this helps.

Try your local recreational boating supplier. They will have 12V bilge pumps that are used for standby conditions on all sorts of small boats.

Second alternative, try your local aquarium supplier. Many will have low voltage pumps that run from step-down mains supply.

Third alternative, try to find a "hydroponic" gardening supplier. They would also often have low voltage pumps for water movement.

Also, you comment about "on and off for short intervals", is it possible to use a smaller capacity pump and so have a greater duty cycle for the "on" time in each pumping cycle? (If it is in fact on a caravan, can you fit a small pressure acumulator and then treat it like an off system household water supply.

Dear Koch

Try to investigate the sentence you mentioned " pump is put ON and OFF at SHORT intervals. Please more details about this point, because I think the problem may be at the design of the system not the pump.

Thanks

Aly

Can you not specify the requirements a bit better, Liters per minute? Pressure? Poable or not?

There is a vast range of pumps for caravans, the more you pay, the bigger (and better!) the pump.....
