Is there any product available that can be installed under an existing driveway?

Mr. Google says:www.allwarm.com/driveway-heat.htm

And there are several others. You've just got to look.

This stuff really does exist. Check out this Electric Radiant Heating link:

I expect the energy cost per hour would far exceed the hourly wage of a fleet of on call shovelers.

I used Britech ( www.britech.ca ) in my driveway it is way easier on the back than shovling at any cost.

Of course. Start with (#1) small diameter steam pipes connected to a boiler, probably using Dowtherm or similar, (#2) look at the electric cables that are used to melt snow and ice from roof eaves and gutters, and last but not least, (#3) incorporate some radioactive waste, similar to the isotopes that are used for power generation for long-life satellites and interplanetary probes. Perhaps not a legal or viable solution, but a solution none the less.

Or get a GE F7A combustion turbine set up in your back yard (they are so unsightly in the front yard) and a HRSM for the heat rercovery. If you make it electric you will need that for power. The HRSM is Heat Recovery Snow Melter. This is where the economics of the GE installation really shows. Consider exhaust ductwork (for a nominal fee) to your neighbors driveways, patios, not too close to the house of course. Snow and ice will not stand a chance against the 1200+ degree exhaust. Better yet if you have some of those "problem neighbors" offer to clean and dry the roof with the exhaust or duct it directly into their house for "Free Heat"
