What is the flattness of Mechanical Seal faces at

1 Light Band & 2 Light Band?

Normally we procure our seals (and specify them) to 2 light bands.

However it all depends on your application parameters, media sealed, amount of leakage acceptable etc. The amount of flatness can not be generalised - An ideal surface must be the best - however that shoots up the cost of manufacturing and hence the cost of the seal.

BTW McNally is an excellent source for pump information. I've barely scratched the subject there.
