Waterproof USB Conectors

01/24/2009 6:59 AM

Is there such a thing as a waterproof femal usb connector that is good down to 6 feet with an outside dia. of .375 or less? With a panel mounting flange shallow enough to be mounted flush in 1/16 " material. The over all length can be more generious at .625".

Thanks for the time.

L-com has them, but you may want to try google.

Results 1 - 10 of about 709,000 for USB cable + waterproof. (0.22 seconds)

To achieve waterproof as you have probably noticed, requires a pair (male and female) to make the connection.

No sir I hadn't noticed and/or gotten that far into the connectors. But That makes perfect sense. The problem the company I work for (only as an electronics tech) is having stems from trying to make their product water proof to a depth of 6 feet using a regular USB female connector by sealing around the pc bd mounted housing and at the point where the connector passes through the component chassis. The whole thing is about the size of a i pod player.

There's no provision for a plug and/or cover for the USB connection as they would extend past the out side of the unit which is unacceptable. I seems to me they are attacking the symptoms rather then curing the problem of the USB port leaking when submerged.

Again I am researching this on my own hopefully to offer a solution to management. I appreciate yours and any one else's suggestions, comments and thoughts.

Thank you,
