After disassembling the 5 sp manual transmission and replacing all the bearings and oil seals with Honda parts I reinstalled the transmission in the Civic. However, I am unable to install the L driveshaft so the 26mm circleclip seats and the flange on the shaft end of the inner CV joint is flush against the transmission oil seal. It stops ~ 1/2" short. Striking the end of the drive shaft with a rubber hammer did not change anything. I know that the L & R inner CV joints are different because they have different Honda parts numbers but I do not know what the differences are. I plan to try to install the R drive shaft on the left side to see if that solves the problem. If it does can I simply exchange the R & L inner CV joints or must I pull the transmission again and disassemble it?
Does any Honda mechanic know whether this problem could have been caused by miss assembling the differential parts when I installed new bearings?
