YouTube File Conversion

01/27/2009 10:00 AM

I would like convert *.flv files (from various sources, eg youtube) to a format that becomes viewable on standard DVD palyer. Are there any software free or at cost that I can acquire in order to burn to DVD disks with ease?

FlashLynx is such a package (available in free version) which allows you to download *.flv clips from U-Tube in most popular video formats, by converting the flic in real-time, while downloading the utube originals.

Furthermore, you can even specify the resolution required, the frame-rate, and the soundtrack type, for these conversion to be adhered to.

I tried to convert the youtube file to a different format and save/burn to a dvd, but the file does not get converted. It can only be used with realplayer to run the video. I want to save/burn to a dvd and play on a normal dvd player. Is it possible? Could you please let me know the exact steps to follow when using FlashLynx.

First, did you manage to download video-files with Lynx ?

Once you know how to download videos with Lynx, converting them is just a matter of setting the bottom-left "Video Format" selection-box, and "Encoder Options" button.

If it managed to download videos, but you don't know where they were saved to, go to the "Options" (wrench icon) button on the top-right, and set the drive and directory, where you want Lynx to save the downloaded videos to.

Yes, I managed to download the file and it appears in the "download" button (which is located on the rhs of the screen, next to the "converted" button also on the rhs of the screen. When I click on the file or use the play button, I am able to see the video. But when I want the downloadeded video file to be converted to a chosen format, I am not given the choice to operate either the 'video Format' or the 'Encoder Option' buttons that you mention. These buttons appear in faded fonts, i.e., you cannot choose these buttons. This is my problem.

OK, so now we can get to convertion:

First, keep in mind that Lynx will only convert files it downloaded. Now, if your download directory was set in the "Options" button, you will also find the converted files there, unless you create or set another directory for the converted files.

Setting the format to convert the downloads to is in the "Output Format" selection-box:

There you can choose .mpg (as shown) to view the video on a DVD player.

Now, converting video files is the same as downloading files, only that after you select the video files to download, you press the "Convert" button, instead of the "Download" button,

This will both download and convert all the video files (downloaded and converted) to the designated directory.

This one also seems to work OK, worth a trial to see if it suits.
