Testing LV Breakers

During testing of LV Breaker of 1600 Amps at 40% (640Amps), the breaker tripped at 945 Amp where as it should tripp off not more than 768 Amps with the margion of 20%. The breaker is of merlingerin make and controlled by micrologic 6

Any one can guide me, what can be the reason and how can I resolve the issue? Thanks.

Manzoor,

All trip "points" of electrical protection devices are set (controlled) by the variables/parameters programmed into that device (Micrologic 6) and the settings are determined by the end user/programmer locally or at the factory.

In most cases the systems protection engineer representing the owner/buyer specifies the variable/parameter setpoints based upon the equipment application and the desired level of equipment protection.

The manufacturer of the breaker "programs" the settings into the breaker protective control device prior to shipment.

You need to identify which variable/parameter is actuating the "trip", (overload? Instantaneous? Time-Over-Current? Ground Fault? etc.) verify the required correct value for the equipment protection scheme, and then adjust it accordingly.

You should have a tag attached somewhere on the breaker in a visible area that contains a job/project/order number.

Find the tag/nameplate, copy all of the information and then contact the manufacturer to obtain the variable/parameter settings list.

If all of the trip settings are verified to be correct for your application, the Micrologic unit is defective and should be removed from the breaker and sent back to the factory for repair or replacement.
