The journal Science is shining the spotlight on the Lighting Research Center (LRC) at Rensselear Polytechnic Institute (RPI). Scientists in Troy, NY have developed "smart" solid-state light sources that use scattered photon extraction (SPE) to get significantly more light from LEDs without requiring more energy.
