Heat Shrink Tubing Installation time

11/01/2006 7:22 PM

Hi,

I would like to know if by any chance anyone knows about a method, process or tool to make the Heat Shrink Tubing Installation faster for big and small batches of material (wire, cables, etc)? And advantages and disadvantages of it. Ovens? Which would be the best one.

I have a heating gun but sometimes the process is slow because of the amout of wires I have to heat shrink.

Thank you so much.

Alfredo R.

There are a number of manufacturers that make anything from special attachments for heat guns to direct the heat around the bundle to special ring shaped affairs. I suggest you look at manufacturing tool catalogs or contact a heat shrink vendor.

I am not sure if you're at home for fun on the side, or a small business. In any case I am going to bet money is the prime consideration. I am a gadget guy. Rig it up. What if you used a steel or cast iron pipe; these, while they take longer to warm up, stay hotter longer, aluminum would cool faster. Then get another heating gun, if needed, and hook them up to blow into the pipe. That would make an oven, of sorts. All that is left is timing so thatyou don't overshrink and perhaps a thought about something to keep the tubing off the metal. Some sort of high temp cloth or such.

Hold the heat gun in place with a vise or clamp. Then move the wires or cable assy thru the heat. This allows much faster and more even application of the heat. If you need more speed perhaps this is the answer: http://cableorganizer.com/heat-shrink-oven/index.htm
