Dry Gas??

01/30/2009 11:25 PM

Just curious, living in upstate NY I've commonly used dry gas in the winter to keep the moisture from causing fuel problems in the winter.

I just filled my gas tank and the gas pump has a decal that states: 10% ethanol added.

My question is, is it necessary to continue to use the dry gas now that 1.2 gallons of the fuel I just pumped into my tank is ethanol?

In a word---no. There is enough alcohol in the gasoline to absorb any moisture that may condense on the inside of your tank.

Dry Gas is an alcohol based additive for gasoline. Over time, condensation etc. can cause a buildup of water in the fuel tank. When the amount of water is high enough, it can separate out, and you have two phases:liquid water and gasoline. Liquid water is a very bad thing to pull into your fuel system. Both water and gasoline all soluble in alcohols, so it is added to form a homogeneous solution.

Probably not. Dry Gas is an alcohol in which any water in the bottom of the gasoline tank is dissolved. Then the alcohol dissolves in the gasoline and is burned.
