Can anybody inform me about the difference between a single acting reciprocating compressor and a double acting one, please help by providing literature for the same as well.
A single acting machine only uses one side of the cylinder for compression, so only one cylinderful of air is compressed per rotation of the crank.
A double acting machine uses both the forward stroke (compressing the air "in front of" the piston), and the return stroke (compressing the air "behind" the piston), so so compressing two cylinderfuls of air per crank rotation.
