Gas Tank Sealant for Snowblower

02/02/2009 1:24 PM

I am looking for a gas tank sealant for my snowblower.

The tank has started to rust inside.

I see there are several out there, but I am looking for some advice which is the best to use, especially with some not withstanding alcohol.

Thank you.

Look up Eastwood tools. They make just the stuff.

Good one! It will fix the leaks, but he also needs to coat the interior of the rusty tank.

By the time he gets done most likely would have paid for a new plastic one that would never rust again.

I agree, go out and find a plastic one that is close to yours at your local warehouse or clearnance store.

I've done this for motorcycle tanks that were expensive or just not available, but I don't see the advantage of sealing a tank for a snowblower.

Do a google search on the word "kreem"

Or, buy a new tank. They make nice plastic ones now, no worries about rust!

Just replace the tank! It doesnt have to be the same shape or in the same place.

The tank is no longer available and the carburator pick up tube mounts directly to the tank.

Go to a local motorcycle shop and ask if they have an open can of Kreem and tank cleaner. Can't hurt. A fuel tank repair kit from NAPA (765-1546) will do on the outside or some of the "stick" fuel tank epoxy, It even works on wet fuel and it's cheap (isn't that why we are on this topic).

Well if you don't want to replace it then look for a kit. It will include a conditioner, rinse agent and the sealant.

POR makes a gas tank kit that's just great!

Kreem -- Hell, no! I've got a motorcycle in the garage that has a Kreem-ed tank, and I'm forever cleaning the fuel filter and such!

You'll never stop it from rusting and why take the risk of clogging up your fuel system. Fine particles of rust do a nice job of scouring the carb to the point of useless.
