Accessibility options

02/07/2009 2:48 PM

Hi, I have been an idiot again, and fiddled with the accessibility options, just out of interest, and have made all the text a different size, and the bars at the top are half the normal size, and the minimize/maximize and close buttons etc are also resized. Any ideas how to get it back? I have tried system restore, but it didnt do anything. Thanks

Ask your youngest child or one of the neighbor's younger kids to fix it for you. Then ask them to please tie your hands behind your back so this will never happen again. Other than that I can't help. When I get home from work I'll ask me 6 year old son if he has an answer. He helps me when I do foolish things (like thinking I have a clue about computers).

The windows are the right size, just the bars at the top are the wrong size, and the words on the start menu have been resized.

go back to Control Panel, click on Accessibility Options, and change the values or restore to default. My OS is Vista and I don't have acc. opts anymore so I can't lead you to the detailed steps.

H'lo Bondy111,

Fiddling is my middle name, so I can relate. Here are some images of Control Panel options you might try; before the killer remedy of all which is to go back to a system restore point that may or may not make you wish you didn't.

The web page address for these three images is:
http://www.green-metroplex.com/Assorted/Tutorials/regarding/Vista/Settings.html
I'm not certain that you can see these images full sized in this CR4 thread so use the link if you want to see them full sized.

At any rate your Control Panel now has Icons with labels too short to make out what the heck they do on some instances. Here are two, in order of likely best guess: 1) "Personalize" and 2) "Ease of Access" Icons under which you'll likely find your fix. Good luck, Tinker65

Thanks, but I use XP pro and home, maybe I should write that in my signature or something.

Umh, hmm,

Far as I remember, XP Pro's got similar icons... not sure about Home Addition, though.

Hello Bondy...

Have you tried:

  • Right Click on Desktop, select Appearance Tab, then change Windows and Buttons to XP Style, Color scheme to Default, Font size to Normal..?
  • Control Panel / Accessibility Options..? There is no "return to defaults" option, and I believe the first bullet will override these settings
  • Go to Start / All Programs / Accessories / Accessibility and run through the Wizard to manually reset your User Interface.

I would avoid resorting to a past restore point... One of these will work for you, and if not let us know. It will prompt further questions in order to get at the niggling details.
