Liquid Fuel Bypass Valve (LFBV) and Moog Valve Operation

02/10/2009 2:00 AM

We have a 7 nos. Frame-VI & MARK-V controlled BHEL make Gas Turbine. In continue to my last question related to FSR,FQL & Load hunting problem I have Few queries related to LFBV & Moog valve as under. (1) How can we know that LFBV filter is chocked and it was by passing the hydraulic oil (There was no PG or any instrument for sensing the Dp) to control the liquid fuel through moog valve. We have no LFBV detailed drawing and oil internal oil path to operate LFBV. (2) How moog valve working and control the liquid fuel towards machine and bypass. What is the part of pensile filter of Moog valve? If pensile filter was chocked how it will by passed the Hydraulic oil to control the moog valve operation. If possible pl. provides me detailed drawing of LFBV & Moog valve controlling or any animation to understand the operation of LFBV/ Moog valve operation.

Dear friend,

A. The Moog Incorporation manufactures all three type of ~proportional control valves~

1. Direct drive type 2. Nozzle flapper type and 3. Jet type.

These proportional valves work according to the output command processed in mili amps and received from position or pressure transducers. On receiving the command these valves operate the actuator by supplying the required amount of hydraulic fluid in proportion to the differential between the set value and the actual value.

B. The tube type filter or pencil filters are supplied by Moog and other manufacturers as per the the type and size of a particular valve. When filter chocks, the moog valve does not actuate the service valve and the increased pressure operates the relief valve in the system and sends the unregulated supply either to srervice (here burner) or to the tank.

To be more clear, please search Moog in google.

GA to you guest - suggest you join.

Moog filter is usually a "last chance" filter and is often around 60 micron. OP needs to check what is blocking this as it is substantially bigger than his 5 or 10 micron oil filters. Could he have a "varnish" problem?

Dear Friend,

While scanning my links to CR4, I just came accross to your queries on regards to LFBV (w/c included the Moog Valve of GE Gas Turbine (whatever it is, Frame 5. 6, 7, 9). These two valves are for liquid fuel (distillate fuels) before and after flow divider.

To continue, we were having a big problem on fuel that only LPG (propane) was used as primary fuel, but once it was choked, the whole system failed due to diesel fuel was not changing over. This was the scenarion before I came.

Many alarms (vibrations, temperature, loss of air (intake air) and others popped up, then tripped (no specified caused in Speedtronic).

Read and Understand the "changeover fuel sequence based on DSP" was good to know (also for you). This was the starting point.

The culprit of all troubles was the Moog Valve. Since, the Rusail Power Plant was on commissioned , the "fuel changeover from gas to liquid. vis-a-vis" were never done, after GE commissioning group was left.

Advice:

1) Have a stock of these Moog valves.

2) Make a habit to clean and and change the filter (10microns), once there is inspection schedule.

Your Boss will be happy that you will not experience the "force outage"

Eren

We are having two nos. frame 6 GE machine and face similar problem with moog valve. The same lubricating oil of the main tank is used as hydraulic oil for this moog valve. Can anyone tell whether separate hydraulic oil circuit (not the lubricating oil of Gas Turbine) is available in Frame 6 machine for controlling the Moog valve operation. It seems that keeping the oil clean and replacement will be easier and cheap if we have a separate hydraulic oil system for Moog Valve.
