Hydro Power Turbine - Driveshaft Diameter

02/16/2009 10:20 PM

Dear fellow engineers,

I'm working on the design of a gravitational vortex hydro power.

Since there are very low RPM I have to deal with a very big torque.

In a 45KW application I will have 5400nm torque at the drive shaft.

How can I calculate the required steel thickness for the vertical drive shaft of the turbine?

I will probably be using 304 stainless steel pipe or solid. Any suggestions?

Thanks so much in advance.
