If XP works for you, don't upgrade. Last year I went from XP to Vista because my son's pc had some connection issues with mine and I was adding new hardware, so it seemed appropriate. Our linking problem was resolved, but I hated Vista. Oh, it was stable and all that, but the UI was changed in a number of nuisance ways, the new search feature is a total fiasco, it takes longer to load, etc etc. If we didn't have that PC linking problem, I'd revert to XP.
Curious about your statement that Vista takes longer than XP to load?
I know am blessed and I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience with Vista SP1. From the press of computer on until Vista boots and then Internet connection is finished time elapsed is fifteen seconds. My memory is only of the good when using XP but XP wasn't that fast ever?
The information I've gotten about M7 is encouraging too??
I do have an XP machine that I intend to do a hardware and O/S upgrade and expect to use a OEM Vista version then upgrade to M7 from it.
I suspect you may not have considered the effectiveness of O/S when configuring your hardware upgrade.

As #1 replied it is not possible to upgrade directly from XP to 7, Vista has to be installed and then upgrade to 7.
From what I have been reading 7 is a bit of a disaster. I'm retired and I don't have time to be fooling around with bum operating systems, let the corporate whizzes have a whack at it before being beta bait.
Just my opinion.

Windows 7 is beta only so if you are looking to do anything useful with it then I wouldn't recommend it. If you want to see how it looks and feels then just look at vista as they are very similar. I would just wait til they actually come out with a name for it because by that point they are almost ready to release it. Same thing with windows Longhorn and Vista.
