Peugeot 307 hdi Anti Pollution Fault

02/21/2009 7:35 PM

I have a few problems with my Peugeot 307, I needed some advice so I don't get ripped off. It's a 307 HDI 2.0 D Turbo 110 BHP, 53 Reg, about 52,000. The Engine management light is on and often while driving the dial flash STOP 'Engine Coolant Temp Too High'. Also it will say quite often 'Anti Pollution Fault'. The car doesn't drive the same, infact it's quite sluggish. I have took it too Peugeot whom wanted a ridiculous amount to fix. This is what the report says. Engine ECU EDC15C2 Permanent fault, EGR solenoid valve, EGR solenoid valve circuit short-circuited to earth or open circuit. Permanent fault, Particle filter, PEF pierced or differential pressure info incorrect. Intermittent fault, Engine coolant temperature signal, Short circuit to positive or open circuit. Intermittent fault, Additive quantity, Additive ECU. Intermittent fault. Additive quantity. Maximum additive in PEF threshold reached. They also said if you sort the top two (as above) then all faults will go. What's the best and cheapest solution?

You can start by checking the connections on the EGR solenoid. If all looks good try checking for continuity from the disconnected ECM harness(or what ever Peugeot calls the engine management computer). If that tests good, Test the EGR solenoid for ohms across it. One of the tests should show your problem.

The next trouble code appears to be a particle filter. You will need to service the filter. Check your service manual for the procedure. I can't help with that, but perhaps another member can. The particle filter can cause an increase in exhaust back pressure, which could cause the car to run hot. The last code seems to relate to an additive used in the particle filter. That could be a result of the particle filter being restrictive, and the additive not cleaning it.

I would also repair the first two codes, clear the codes from the ECM, and try driving the car to see if any codes reset. Good luck.

We had a 2002 307 HDi and that too gave trouble with the "Anti Pollution Fault light" The issue was that at 72000 miles the car has run out of the special fluid that is used to flush out the catalytic convertor. This fluid is stored in a 5 litre container under the LH side of the back seat - under the floor and accessed from the bottom. However, the tank can only be filled using a special kit from your Peugeot dealer which costs about £35. HOWEVER... This does NOT reset the warning light. My friendly dealer explained that I had to take it there to be connected to the computer and the computer would start and run the engine for 45 minutes at very high revs to burn the soot out of the Cat and then the computer resets the light - at a cost of another £45.

I have a colleague who services Peugeot 407 taxis. He says that they do have an issue with the engine sensors and they do thus cost a good deal more to run to high - 200 000miles -mileages than the eralier models.

Good luck

HM
