Non Contact Distance Measurement

02/22/2009 7:41 AM

Dear friends,

I am looking for Non Contact Distance Measurement device to be used to measure Metal (Steel Plate). The requirement is to hook up the instrument to computer and record 15 data / second and working range should be 50 to 500 mm. Maximum time is allowed is 3 minutes per measurement.

Can any body suggest where can i find suitable instrument??

Thanks

Sameer

There are many systems some use laser some use ultrasonics others use capacitive and inductive.

Try www.turck.com.au

yes there is alot of verities of instruments that you require and i will prefer ultrasonic sensor for you because of the measuring distance but the problem which is not clear by your statement is permanent sensing or sensing by some frequency (i mean the absence and presence of metal).any further help u can mail me at zaman.burki@emccuae.com.

Thanks sir,

I need to continuously scan and record distance (of scanner to plate) in computer in an accuracy of 0.1 mm. Actually, we need to measure variations observed in plate thickness reflecting on the surface. Usually plate length is 5 meter but travel speed some times varies and plate is marginally hot (150 degree celsius).

Hello Guest,

Here is some sites you may find useful.

I have one question though...........What happens to a sheet or length of steel which does not come up to spec? How do you get it out of the way to allow the continued stream of other pieces out? And if one is wrong will not the rest be wrong also? Are you checking for flatness, thickness, finish?

Take care....................
