Mechanical Engineer Seeking Employment (Los Angeles)

02/26/2009 12:16 AM

Hello fellow CR4 members. I've been using this site for a long time as a quick reference for random bits of information to help me with various projects I have worked on, and decided to finally join as an official member. I was wondering if anyone has any connections to job openings in the Los Angles area. I have done a lot of mechanical design work (3D modeling: solidworks, inventor etc.) as well as research and development. I like to get my hands dirty and usually work in a team-based project environment. If anyone works someplace looking to fill a position I would greatly appreciate it! I'm hoping a community of enthusiasts such as myself might be able to help. Thanks in advance.

I couldnt believe that you are out of work. its not able to imagine. you must make a joke to us all. very interesting,

you can design, draw blueprint, 3D modeling with solidwork etc, which software I hvnt heard ever.( I wish I could use them as skill as you do ). so I guess you must hope to seek more salary job instead of the present one.

Its only until yesterday evening I knew a friend of mine who is living in NY lost his job for a long time when I got a ring from him, Im sure if he would have such skill as you can do, he mush find a job very soon.

He may need more help. I cannt image how large and busy city the New York is why cannt find a job for a worker? he works very hard and can cook well chinese food.

this time Im serious. whats up, usa?

you may baffle me. I know merican know more than me for our chinses transactions.

you have more developped news press system than us.

you can also find the many facts from our state newspapers and media.

I know there are lots of labour in our country lost their jobs for their less skill and less knowledges. especially peasants in the countryside.

some of them has no education condition, but some of them willing not to study, for study is a hard work for many persons. some of them thought they can live by physical labour. As matter of fact, its because of your the west world made them get many change to have a job, but now, all is changed. some of them even dont know how to tend their fields, of cause some of them lost field as city spread out.

in fct, in china still has many jobs need peple to do, but most of people cannt stand by the skills.

more and more oversea chinese or students come back looking for job, this make more local youngers lost jobs. but these students are all learning business, management or financial, but less learn engineering. so they also face with seeking pressure of work.

Im not a social worker, so I can only know this.

In the USA there are tens of thousands of engineers and designers with those skill sets who are looking for work.

These people aren't looking to make more money but just to get a job so they can stay in the houses they live in.

I am sure this is similar for much of the world. If people aren't buying, then manufacturers aren't producing. With no money manufacturers do little new product development.

tens of thousands of skilled engineers lost their job? who can believe?

if you would say they are skilless workers or handcraftman like a friend of mine I metioned above, I might think its true.

even though, I was told on tv program that Obama promise there will nearly 4 million position offer soon. I think the situation soon will change and they will get job.

I know there is a serious financil crisis in usa, but you neednt enlarge it and cheat me with such torrible words.

I cnnt go to usa to compete a job with any of you. dont worry.

Unfortunately I am not exaggerating. In our design house we're down 50%.

"Obama promise there will nearly 4 million position offer soon".

Sadly you are influenced by US political speak and a liberal biased media. I am not so sure you receive unbiased information from your media either!

Engineers with a focused specialty usually have to relocate when loosing a job unless there is local competition. Unless your area of expertise matches the technology direction of Obama's stimulus program, you will not likely be one of the 4 million "new or saved" jobs cited.

Hi HallYall,

Sorry to hear you don't have job in spite being a technocrat.I don't know if you would like to relocate your self. You may find opportunity in R&D divisions of Auto Divisions in India. If you are interested then you should apply to such companies in India through Google. We have here fairly stable auto industry such as Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Toyota,Ford, Honda, Mahindra & Mahindra etc.

Wish you best of luck.

Infact the time might have come for reverse brain drain as you can say.

We are a bit stable at the moment and job market is not that bad (except in IT sectors that also due to you USA ) that sector was totally dependant on you.

Withyour qualifications, mightnot be too difficult to get a job.

Only don't know much about the red-tapism (you know foreigners applying for job - it is a common problem everywhere- and even if the jobs are available, and nobody is objecting, still the redtape will - you know that is what the beaurocrats are paid for.

Hello HallYall,

I was wondering if you've had any luck finding work since your original post?

I'm also wondering if people like you, and your specific experience, have ever thought of working as a contractor for a start-up via the WWW?

I'm asking because my experience lately has proven difficult to find an Eng. with experience such as yours and mech/inst/design/fluid control background in the Chico area.

My current project (fire control system & bio-chem warfare solution applicator) is in the 3rd phase of prototyping. Big demo coming up in April to a Pharmaceutical company. I'm not an engineer, but thru trial and error have managed to invent a fully self-contained system that is attracting interest. The interested parties want 4 models of the technology. That's where I need help.

A provisional patent app has been submitted to USPTO. Have 10 months left to claim claims.

What are your thoughts on working 400 miles from a project?

Regards

Stephen Crump

If there was some type of system set up for me to offer design/engineering expertise from my location I would be more than happy to get involved with your project. Feel free to send me a private message if you are interested.

My company is looking for a mechanical design engineer to work in Afghanistan. The first rotation is six months and you get a 3 week R&R after 4 months w paid plane ticket. You must be a US citizen and hold or be able to obtain a secret clearance and have a BSME. The work is on a secure military facility and the pay is over 225k/yr.

Great offer but at cost of risking life.
