What is the kVA for This Electrical Appliance?

03/02/2009 12:57 AM

What is kVA for this electrical appliance?

1. 1 hp aircond (3 nos)

2. 2 x 36W fluorescent light ( 13 nos)

3. 150W spotlight ( 6 nos)

4. water pump, 5 hp.

5. Switchboard (panel) c/w ELCB, and MCCB/MCB with 8 nos. female socket. ( 6 nos 16A & 2 nos 32A ). Can anybody estimated the kVA for the MCCB ?

And if i want to use the GenSet for supply, what kVA required for the Genset?

What is kVA for this electrical appliance?

first, you must know how much power factor of each device...

and then...

1. 1 hp aircond (3 nos)---> 3 HP =2.23 KW=.............(KVA)

2. 2 x 36W fluorescent light ( 13 nos) =2x36x13= 936 watt = 0.936kW= ........(KVA)

3. 150W spotlight ( 6 nos) = 900Watt= 0.9 KW=.........(KVA)

4. water pump, 5 hp.= 5x0.746 =3.73 KW=............(KVA)

5. Switchboard (panel) c/w ELCB, and MCCB/MCB with 8 nos. female socket. ( 6 nos 16A & 2 nos 32A ). Can anybody estimated the kVA for the MCCB ? depend on Actiatuall load....

now your turn to convert them to KVA, i am sure you can, if you are electrical engineer.....

Why would he ask if he is ? he would have calculated himself.

Next question: what do you mean by power factor ?

first of all, what generator you plan to use? a single phase or three phase Generator?

secondly, what pump you are going to use and type of starter 1ph/3ph, DOL/SD/AT?

normally I'll calculate the total connected load and take into consideration the diversity factor ( not all loads operate all the time, right ? ) also must consider what kind of load you plan to connect to the 13 A Sockets, if you estimate full 13A for all 8 sockets, then you will need a big generator.

get me the details and I'll help you.

MultiTech, thanks for your comment.

I plan to use 3 phase Generator.

For the pump, it is 1ph, DOL Starter.

Socket are use for electric drill and power supply for other electrical appliance, spot light, cutter etc. Can you estimate for all loads use all the time and half loads use?

Thanks.

based on the info given, a 25Kva 3phase generator should be able to do the work, remember to split the load evenly to all the 3 phases.

1 hp = 746 watts but use .800 kw 2 x 36watts = 72 watts .072 kw 1 x 150 watts =150watts .150 kw 5 x 746 watts = 3,730 watts 3.800 kw total = 4.822 kw x 125% = 6.03 kva for 80% PF Now take the 6 kva and multiply times 125% = 7.5 kva minimum for continuous loads. Generators should not be loaded less than 30% or more than 80% for continuous loads. Most generators have a .8 power factor meaning that the KW rating is 80% of the KVA rating.

Thanks Guest.

How about item no. 5? can you help me to estimate it?

5. Switchboard-3 phase,415Vac (panel) c/w ELCB, and MCCB/MCB with 8 nos. female socket. ( 6 nos 16A-1 phase & 2 nos 32A-3 phase ). Can you estimate the kVA for MCCB ?
