Residual Voltage Transformer

Kindly explain the working principle behind the Residual voltage transformer which is placed at Capacitor bank bay in substation.

rvt is working as a pt in a capacitor. if any fault like earthed accur in capacitor that time rvt give unbalnce voltage to earth fault relay & tripped to its incoming breaker.
