Starting of d.c. Motor

Can I start a d.c. Motor by a rated a.c. voltage ? If yes, please explain it.

Of course, if you rectify it.

Explanation: put a fullwave rectifier, with preferably filters.

Yes if its a universal(DC/AC) motor.

Yes you can start, but whether it would run or not, that i don't know.(i have read that, the performance of DC motor in AC is unsatisfactory)

You can try it.

But never run an AC motor in DC. It would burnout the winding.
