Arc Flash - IEC vs. NFPA 70E and NEC

03/04/2009 10:47 AM

I work for a consulting firm in the US and I have been asked to write a training article for our staff regarding the commonalities and differences between the IEC and the NFPA70E and NEC as it relates to Arc Flash. I am not very familiar with the IEC and so far with a quick search I have come up with IEC 60298 as a standard for European Arc Flash code. I would appreciate it if someone that is familiar with the IEC and the NFPA 70E and NEC regarding Arc Flash standards post IEC standard info. The information needs to be geared more towards the industrial application/installation side 120v through 15kv.

Thank everyone that participates in advance for their time and assistance.

Are you talking about this?:

Project IEC 61482-1-1 Ed. 1.0 Bilingual

1. That is too much to post here.

2. It would be illegal; you need to buy it.

Well... maybe one day. Actually I am a recent university graduate, and I never even heard of the IEC until recently... So, all help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again to all of those who will participate...

An arc flash safety equipment supplier's website dealing with both US and European markets may be your best bet of finding a simple training document indicating the differences (such as Salisbury).

If it's the specifics you are after then you will need to actually buy the IEC 60298 standard (obviously).
