Direct Drive Air Handler to Augment Ceiling Fans

03/05/2009 8:05 PM

Wind is directed to a VAWT (squirrel cage fan rotor- Kris should like this) shafted to a mirror image VAWT inside an air handler of conventional design. Only when the wind blows, of course, but part of a more elaborate system. Augmentation of existing ceiling fans is initial thought.

Or you could potentially use something from this company.

http://www.bigassfans.com/

Their largest 24' diamter fan uses a 2hp motor and blows 337,000 CFM.

I think the big one only turns at about 43 rpm.

My main goal is to only use "free" power sources in concert with each other. Wind, solar, geothermal, human (I know, food is not usually free) or anything else. With enough different systems coupled together, it could be possible.
