Can't Connect to the Internet

03/06/2009 11:48 AM

Hi, On my laptop, it can go on windows messenger etc, but the browsers and programs trying to update, cannot access the internet. I know it is not the internet, because my desktop (what i'm on now) works fine. Any ideas how to sort it? I have checked the internet settings, which are the same as this, and have done a AVG and malwarebytes scan on it. I tried spybot search and destroy, but it needs to update in order to work. It is running XP home, and neither chrome, IE or Firefox will work. Any help?

I had a similar problem a couple weeks ago, none of my AV stuff would update. I checked the permission settings in Zonealarm and all the AV stuff was set to deny. I still do not know what caused it. You might check your 'hosts' file also.

Wait, It's all fixed. I went into the router, and disabled a policy, which is for a different MAC address, but stopped the laptop from accessing the internet. Thanks for your help

First time I set up a router I turned off so many ports my kids couldn't game online.

Tricky business - I also accidentally turned off the port my brother-in-law used for Juno.

Call your ISP it sometimes is a driver problem like a E-card problem.
