There are portable water quality improvers. (I am not willing to use the word "purifiers"). One fire truck manufacturer is starting to encourage buyers to equip their fire engines with them to be able to supply drinkable water from almost any source. There are three sizes available from them now With the stimulus plan gathering momentum, expect some communities to take advantage of these systems to prepare for what they hope will never happen. Possibly on a state level, that could be sent to any area in the state.

In the area of south Florida that I live in there are no longer buried natural gas lines. When leaks developed in some of the underground lines, the system was capped. All people were set up with above ground tanks and disconnected from the underground. I can not tell you what needed to be done to convert the appliances from natural gas to propane, but I believe it is only a matter of changing a restrictor in the inlet. Tanked natural gas could be sent to users until underground repairs are made.
