Monitor

03/07/2009 6:23 AM

Hi, Occasionally, when turning on my pc, the monitor does not recognise that the pc is turned on, and so doesn't display the picture. If I unplug the computer, and re plug it back in, it works fine. Does anyone know what might cause this to happen? It's running XP pro, with 64mb onboard graphics. (b4 anyone says to get a new pc, I am currently building 1)

Also, the monitor now periodically flickers. It's a CRT BTW

I Dunno but I have the same problem with my printer. The print queue gets stuck untill untill I unplug it, replug it, and pray. Then it's fine untill the next time it jams. Vista has some other problems, and I wish I still had XP. Uninstall/reinstall, compatibility Wiz, Nada.

Next time, Macintosh.

Hi bondy,

As you say occasionally, and now is flickering, it does sound like a dodgy video cable, suggest you try a new cable.

Cheers Garth.

Sounds like that your VGA port which is soldered on the motherboard is defective.

How old is monitor? Such problems are faced when monitor has lived up its life. I had to change with new one when my monitor had similar problem. You may contact P.C repair shop they will give you correct advice.

I'm not sure how old the monitor is, I think it is between 2000 and 2003, but it was bought second hand. If possible I will not get a new one, because this one works, and a new one, although they are cheap, will still mean more expensive ontop of the new pc.

If it flickers then it does not work fine! Time for a new monitor. You might try uninstalling the monitor and then reinstalling.

I upgraded from win98 to vista and I agree there are a number of options that were on 98 that You don't get with vista. It all comes down to what You get used to using. when I went from win3.0 to win 98 I had the same problems.

It seems that monitor has lived up its life. Monitor's life span is 5/6 years. If it is still working then it is on oxygen may die natural death soon.

I have the same problem using AMD processors & XP (2 Computers). Seems to fix it self by unpluging the PC. It's not really a monitor problem.

Is there any long term fix? Are your pcs plugged into a surge protection socket, could that do the trick?

You can renew installed programs just by clicking the installers .

I have to do that once in a while when the code become corrupted.

Some have repair selections in the add and remove program sections.
