How to delete or remove Bad email from my inbox of Outlook Express??

Create a rule instructing Outlook to move anything from Newsmax.com to the junk mail folder, then run it.

Is there anyway to undue this rule, as I want to receive Newsmax emails into my Inbox. I have been for years and have never had the problem. When I go back to"create a rule" It is ready for rule number 2. I try to make #2 for newsmax to go to the inbox but that is not an option, it has to go somewhere else.

Sorry, I can't remember. I changed from Express to Outlook (which has Delete and Change options for rules) a couple of years ago.

Is there a Tools menu that lets you configure rules? Can anyone else help?

Been there--done that. Easy solution, create a second inbox in outlook express. Move everything but that email into inbox # 2 then simply delete the entire first inbox. Once this is done you can move everything back into the first inbox and delete the second. Problem solved.

Please let us know how it works out. This happened to me a while back and that was the only way out.

I created inbox #2, selected all good email and moved it to #2. Big mistake. I should have left at least one good with the bad that was received after the bad. Now only the bad is in #1 and as soon as Outlook Express opens, it is automatically selected as it is the only one there and locks up Outlook Express. At least the whole computor is not locked up now and I hope that this will get back to you, so we can come up with plan "B".

In your OE setup do you have it configured that it goes directly to your Inbox on startup ?

Maybe, if you uncheck this box so that you dont start with your Inbox (and your rogue email message) you could delete the folder without it opening. Don't know if it will work but may help. Good luck!

I cannot open OE and do anything as The Bad email causes OE to lock up. Your notice of a reply to my problem also came as an email and gave me the chance to try to move my Inbox #1 or delete it but that did not work. When I get another email it may let me open and try something again. I have created Inbox #3 and will try and drag #1 into it. I didn't seem to be able to move #1 into another box, as it took only the good email itself and left the bad to plague me again. Thank you and I'll keep trying.

Would it help to remove your current Outlook Express, firstly saving your OE messages to a backup folder, then reinstall OE and import your saved messages. Alternatively, can you install Microsoft Outlook as an alternative email application. You could export your good mesages to Outlook and get rid of OE or reinstall if it all works.

Aussiebob has it right. You need to have the outlook express set so that it doesn't open directly to your inbox. Then you can delete that folder.

Get rid of Outlook and set up gmail or whatever as your default.

You should have this screen when you open OE. If you don't then go to it when you get a new email.

Next right click on "inbox", you will be given a list of command options. Select "delete folder". This is how I was able to remove a similar mail problem.

I did uncheck "Go to my Inbox" when starting up. When I right click on Inbox, or the next 4 folders, "Delete" is not an option. It is only an option for any folders that I have created.

As long as I leave some good emails above the bad one I seem to be able to use OE good in every way that I am aware of. I use several different computors and all use OE so I don't want to give that up for MO or Gmail or Hotmail.

I may just live with it, because I can now, but I did not conquer the challenge. It is still there and I am open to any suggestions and thanks for all the help, whether it worked or not, I am learning more about this machine.

This is Microsoft's solution.

Click on the corrupted email, then press and hold the shift and delete keys on your keyboard. This is supposed to perminantly delete the mail.

Well, I'm back at the problem. I selected the bad mail, held down shift and delete and that did not remove the email and then still locked up OE. This is getting very interesting!!

I guess microaoft didn't have it either. I'll check it out more when I get home.

Maybe the bad email has a virus that control OE so that none of these steps can be taken to get rid of it. With 8 children and 5 computers I have learned patience and now it is my nap time.

Do you have the preview pane turned on? If so then go to View>Layout and uncheck the box that says Show preview pane. Once that is unchecked, then try to right click on the bad email, and select delete.

If the preview pane is on, then every time you click on that email to delete it, it is too late because you have already opened it in the preview pane.

The preview pane was checked. I unchecked it, right clicked and even tho the option to delete was present, the OE locked up before I could click on delete or press the delete key, or go to edit and delete. So still no luck. As soon as the bad email is selected, whether by it self or as a group of emails, it is to late to do anything.

I recall from previous experience that you can't delete Inbox or the standard ones, like Sent Items, Deleted, etc, only the additional ones you create yourself. From memory, if you create another folder, like your Inbox2 or similar, copy all your Inbox to the new one, leaving Inbox empty and then delete your temporary Inbox2. Then empty your Deleted Items. Don't forget to save your good messages in the process.

Before I can copy anything it has to be selected and therein lies the problem as it immediately locks OE up. I am thinking of saveing the emails I need into my Inbox #2, Then, how can I move this Inbox #2 out of OE onto my harddrive somewhere??? Then I could Unistall OE while it contains the bad email, and then reinstall OE fresh and then import my Inbox #2 back into my fresh clean OE. I need to know if I can just download OE off the Internet for free first of all, as I do not have a copy on CD. Gentlemen, does this sound like a plan???

Sounds like a good move. What other option do you have for exporting your treasured emails to another email application which you could instal if OE is not an option without the CD - gmail, MS Outlook, etc? Which part of the world are you in?

Okay, I thought you said you were able to create a second inbox. I would try exiting from Outlook Express and then using Explorer to rename the .pst file that is your original inbox to another name, then rename your second inbox to the name your original inbox had. If your Outlook Express is able to start up again, you should have your good email in the new inbox - if that's the case, you can just delete the renamed old inbox .pst file. If you can't get your Outlook to restart properly or it goes haywire, you should be able to exit Outlook and then rename the .pst files to their original names - if that happens, your problem isn't any better off but at least you haven't lost everything.

This is getting pretty deep for me. I would have to have a little guidance to get into Explorer to rename the .pst file that is my original inbox to another name, then my second inbox has the option to "rename" but it would be closed, unless I just give it the name of "Inbox" before closing OE. And if the original Inbow has a special .name then it may not let me take it or use it for another folder. If I have help with the underlined I may be able to accomplish what you are suggesting.

You will see all your OE folders in Windows Explorer in an address something like;

C:\Documents and Settings\Name\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{FD38C9DB-6F1D-4FFF-83EE-0C0D9EBDC638}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

The "Name" part will be whatever you use in your setup and the parentheses bit will be whatever.

Go to Your Outlook > MessageRules > Mail

Add New Mail Rule. It's very simple.

I'm sorry, but that has nothing to do with removing an existing infected email that cannot be selected or clicked on without locking up Outlook Express and sometimes the whole computer. The rules are for New Mail not existing mail, I beleive. I beleive that the only way to get rid of it is to take it to the computer doctor.
