RF Shielded Enclosure Question

11/10/2006 12:29 PM

I need to verify a RF shielded enclosure. I am looking for some information on the equipment required and possibly a white paper or discussion on how to perform the verification.

Any and all help appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Do an internet search( I used google) for a "Faraday cage". There is a wealth of information on the subject.

You basically use a calibrated radio receiver that can be tuned to the frequencies you are interested in. You than use a transmitter to transmit signals at at a known power and distance, and calibrate your receiver "s" meter. than the transmitter is mounted inside the cage and the receiver in a predetermined places and distances from your cage. The signal strength your receiver is peaking up now are the "leakage" from your RF shielded enclosure, they greatly depend on the enclosure materials and it's mechanical design.. . Basically, that is all there is to it. For more information Check "Farady Cage" At any Good search engine. Hope it helps.

Wangito.

Chapter 5 of NAVSEA OD 30393 (www.jsc.mil/jsce3/emcslsa/stdlib/docs/Instructions/od_30393.pdf ) contains a wealth of information on shielding design etc.

MIL-STD-1377 details testing of enclosure shielding performance.
