ASME Code for Multi-Pipe Slugcatcher

03/18/2009 7:27 AM

Dear Friends,

I am designing a Multipipe(Finger type) slug catcher, I want to know which code will be most suitable for this type of design. Should we use ASME B31.8 or should we go for ASME Section VIII. The design pressure is 98 bar (g) and the size is 916mm dia. x 80 m total length(This will be divided in spools).

And squirrels rats/ mice. Snails or slugs are not much problem with me.

OST - ants are - some imported ants have invaded our territory and are decimating all the insects (including other ants) - that red variety which makes nest in leaves.

• If the slug catchers intended to be fabricated from sheets/plates, flanges ... etc., you can use ASME VIII Div. 1 (or Div. 2).

• If the slug catchers intended to be fabricated from piping components (pipes, flanges, fittings, ...etc.), you can use ASME B31.3.

Also, I'd like to add that for the second choice (If the slug catchers intended to be fabricated from piping components: pipes, flanges, fittings, ...etc., you can use ASME B31.3), the ASME Code Section VIII, accepts to apply its rules on that type of fabrication where all constituents are piping components.

Hi Abdel Halim I am looking for some designs for the slug catchers to be fabricated in Asia. Any leads as to look for information. Working with another party with the design is also an option. Thanks

31.8 is normal, this is what Shell use in their DEP for design of finger type slug catchers, I also have a spreadsheet for designing them to B31.8 if you want. pm

I am sure you will use much less steel if you follow the pipe code
