Low Inductance Cable for ECU Injectors

03/19/2009 11:17 AM

Common rail system (piezoelectric injectors) use harness with low inductance cables between ECU and Engine Injectors.

This cables have one drain-wire. This is used as a "circuit shield", and there is a common "circuit" between ECU - Injectors (1-4 injectors and 2-3 injectors).

My first doubt is related with: This drain-wire is used only for electromagnectic field that is created (to avoid bad communication between ECU and Injectors) or is there any other reason for that.

Second, and this is a question: Is there any problem if a miss connection append between injectors? Means insted of 1-4 and 2-3 we have 1-3 and 2-4 (only drain-wire).

Please let me know if more detail is necessary.

Thank's

The 'drain wire' is a shield against stray magnetic or electrical interference. All the 'drain wire' is ultimately connected to the vehicle frame. Hence there should be no adverse impact to the mis-connection? you describe.

It is very important that all the ground connections be in good condition lest peculiar stray voltages start appearing where they will cause harm. Modern automobiles are not very tolerant of bad connections and such.

Thanks Keith for your explanation.

As for reference, could you please advise me some literature regarding this issue.

I would like to go more deeply on this subject.

Thanks once again for your support.
