Well, actually, I believe your problem began before last week. If I had to make a guess, I'd say your problem started the minute you fired up Vista for the first time.

with Vista, click on 'Start', select 'Default Programs' and fix your problem from there, by assigning the right programs to open which file types.

do you mean to say, last week everything was working fine and suddenly WMP takes over your machine? that would be very strange. but if since after you fired up for the first time Vista, you've never been able to open a file properly, then win media player is not the problem, as RVZ717 has rightly indicated.

HTH!

I've seen this problem before except it was with Windows 2000 and XP as well. It usually happens after a virus infection. The virus changes the default program settings to that when you click on an exe file, it runs the virus.

If you have removed the virus, you'll need to restore the default program settings.

regards,

Vulcan
