Converting Heat Energy to Electrical Energy

11/13/2006 6:40 AM

I am currently facing some challenges from which I would like my fellow friends to free me. I want to design a machine that can convert heat energy to electrical energy by burning refuse or waste products to produce electricity. I have been battling with this for so long. Please, can anyone render assitance on how to get this done; or, if a machine like this exists, please let me know. Thanks

So long as i know there are only 2 known ways to convert thermal enrgy in to electricity.

1 steem thermal power plant.

2 thermoelectricity.

I guess thermoelectricity is far from your recah so should choose steem thermal plant.

You could also go get yourself one of those new "Mr. Fusion" home energy converters. Here is a picture.

Is this the one in the movie "Back to the Future?" The one Doc installed on the DeLorean time Machine?

Functional stirling engines now in production. To generate electricity, connect an alternator sized properly for the load.

I am puzzled at the global perception that energy of value must be converted to electrical energy. Why not go directly to the end use function? Can you define the end use? Possibly the end use is for heat to cook or for HVAC or steam. Why convert twice releasing heat energy losses at both conversions? The entire city of Atlanta, for example, is heated by a single "steam heat plant" owned by The Southern Company, Georgia Power. Underground steam heat pipes transmit the heated steam energy throughout the entire city.

For point-of-use systems you make a valid point to be sure. But for distributed systems you have to take into consideration the cost of providing a transmission system, and electrical grids are already in place. If you don't already have steam pipes installed in a city, you probably can't afford to add them after the fact.

I am working on such an engine now in part. I want to be able to use wood or coal pellets, roof heat, wind power, or natural gas in a combined heat and power engine system. E-mail me what you want to do and we can talk. I am very interested in what YOU want and why. Seaplaneguy@msn.com

Dear Guest,

I might seen that you're talking about TPV, a ThermoPhotoVoltaics. If the purpose of yours is to get independent electrical power, this machine may be suitable for your choice. Find by Google, key word Thermophotovoltaics.

I am my-self still conducting a feasibility study regarding CHP, but I think that this machine (i.e TPV) is worth to try while further study must be examined.

Or may be there's someone out here have ever an experience of utilizing TPV, please share with us!

thanks&regards.

I would imagine you cold obtain a set of prints for a coal locomotive and modify them so the end result would would be spinning a generator. Let me know if you succeed. I would love to see your design.

There are many trash to energy plants throughout the US. I know of one in Lynn Massachusetts. A lot depends on the size, but a steam plant appears to be the only option that can get good efficiency out of lousy fuel. You'll still have to trap the ash.

Under the sun, nothing is impossible! Trying 'impossibles' requests a great deal of convoluted thinking, a step forward and many backward, time infinity and economic suicide trips. For experimental purpose, you can use the heat obtained during burning of the farm wastes to heat water in an enclosed steel pot. Steam generated (supposedly under pressure) in the pot could then be maneuvered and finally let out through two, equidistant to the centre venturis (difusers) mounted on the rotating horizontal arms (in form of letter S or Integral Sing ∫) the reactive motion generated will rotate a dynamo and you'll have your electrcity. Remember gyro-effect! the shorter the arms the faster the motion just as in figure skating! Gyro-effect? Call it any name, you already have your electricity. Refer to water sprinklers. When you're done, pay my royalty!

Soji, you must be a good scientist... anyway. Can you believe that I am in Nigeria too; and lets work together inmaking this country more better. I think we can make a search together and get this machine done in order to take the advantage of this dump of waste around us. Be free to contact me anytime with this my e-mail address "care4jerry@yahoo.com" and I am Layade Jeremiah by name.

Sure it possiable. I helped build one for UTC Power. They use refuge heat to boil refrigent, the gas is then passed through a turbine and that inturn spins an electrical motor in reverse, now instead of expending electricy, it generates it.
