How can i make supercharger for 4hp-100cc-2 stroke?got idea please give me sugg.

03/22/2009 12:18 PM

I took an engine out of a snow blower (a 100cc-4hp-2 stroke) and was planning on hooking a turbine/fan assembly from a leaf blower, up to the carburetor. I plan on taking a 200/300 watt electric motor with a speed controller (HOOKED UP TO TWO 12VOLT 12Ah RECHARGEABLE SCOOTER BATTERIES) and connecting it with a 60 tooth pulley attached to the electric motor and a 12 tooth pulley to the turbine/fan so the ratio would make it spin fairly fast.

I would mount the snow blower engine on the end of an electric scooter and mount the supercharger on the side then run some sort of tube/pipe to the carburetor to the turbine. The electric motor would also be mounted to the side of the scooter and would connect to the turbine/fan pulley with a belt. The batteries would be under and inside the scooter. *The supercharger would most likely be used to add acceleration upon take off opposed to using it at the engines max power for top speed.

Do you think it will work?
Any thoughts or suggestions?

I would think the more basic 2 stroke tuning techniques could be tried first at relatively little cost, opening ports, piston skirt trimming ,crank case/ lywheel stuffing, head skimming to increase compression ratio. Re-jetting the carb, tuning the exhaust etc
It would be an idea to see if the main & big end bearings are meaty enough to take the extra power first.

Superchargers don't work much on 2 strokes because the exhaust ports are open at the same time as the intake ports so there is no way to build pressure in the cylinder the way you can in a 4 stroke engine. You may get the effect of better breathing through the inlet system and get a little high rpm power boost over the rated 4 hp. A similar effect is possible through the mods that Del suggested without having to carry the weight of the extra hardware and batteries.

There are other approaches that bring with them some safety issues; but I'm not going to suggest them until we get a better idea who you are and especially how old you are.

I don't suppose there would be a turbocharger that small available? That would be ideal.

As was mentioned in a earlier post the design of a gasoline 2-stroke doesn't lend itself well to turbo or supercharging. Since the engine he is using is from a snowblower it is probably in a low state of tune and would respond to normal 2-stroking tuning techniques.

Sooo...Same suggestions as Del --> More power would be obtained from altering the port timing, raising the compression ratio, increasing volumetric efficiency, carburation changes and ignition timing.

The additional weight of the extra batteries, electric motor, "blower" and weight of the engine itself added to the scooter would cancel the small power increase that might be obtained from that setup.

Don't forget an expansion chamber modified to fit from a racing go-kart or such. If you research and build it yourself it is probably the easiest and cheapest power adder per dollar. Then you can tear it apart and work on the ports and crank stuffing. If the crank doesn't already have needle roller bearings and you or someone you know is handy at machining, rework the crank for that modification.

There are a lot of snow blower repair shops that might let you dig through their pile of junk and take what you want just to get rid of it, especially if you let them know you are trying to trick out an engine for laughs. They are a good source of ideas and might even get involved.
