ASTM A43 seems to be pig iron ? Are you sure about the number ?

http://www.astm.org/DATABASE.CART/withdrawnstandards.html

A36 is steel bar properties of this (and others if you want) can be had from

http://www.matweb.com/search/datasheet.aspx?matguid=d1844977c5c8440cb9a3a967f8909c3a

you can search your materials on the matweb site

Pig iron is the raw unrefined iron from the smelting. This has a very high carbon content (typ 3.5-4.5%) amd is not useful for you.

These are usually re-melted for other irons as cast Iron etc or converted into wrought Iron

I am sure your customer did not mean A43.

get a clarification what is the "A43" ?

Normally whenever it is A,, we just as a thumbrule check the ASTM specs, and A36 is a common known material so it helped.

That was followed by the unknown A43 - which I checked in the ASTM site.

Simple.

ASTM A36 is a grade of carbon steel with a guaranteed yield strength of 36,000 psi. ASTM A43 is pig iron as mentioned earlier.

Did you mean ASTM A 53? See this Wikipedia article.
