Anaerobic Digestion of Biowaste

11/13/2006 2:05 PM

Hi all,

I am working in Uk University to analyze possible application of anaerobic digestion of variously collected Municipal Solid Waste, based on experiences of other countries.

Just some laboratory experiences until now, here in England we lack of many industrial sites on it, but mixture with sewage sludge in waste water treatment sites looks promising for the future.

Lots of interest from government to develop renewable energy projects, and achieving european targets on waste.

Any significant experience in your area or remarks?

I have visited sites in Italy (I am Italian) where organic waste is treated and digested.

Some other stuff in your areas?

Mant thanks.

Do you mean organic digestion?, with bacteria? or chemical digestion with high pressure, temperatures, acids bases etc?

Organic digestion is being developed that use bacteria and/or genes from bacteria with high temperature tolerance, derived from 'extremophiles' in boat aerobic hot springs and anaerobic black smokers in the abyssal depths. This is a growing field.

A few searches will find lots of data.

There are a number of methods of high temp inorganic digestion. A fairly mature field with some usefule products like synthetic oils etc.

Google Biogas. I have found a great amount of info on anaerobic digestion. There is a site called journey to forever that has a number of papers on the subject as well. The US department of Energy has a site on alternative energies that has information on large scale anaerobic digestion. Are you wanting to produce gas or just digest waste? If you are just wanting to digest waste, you might look into constructed wetlands. All of this is very interesting.

Marika

We are looking at some feasibility studies for the the use of Anaerobic Digestion in agriculture for some clients.

Have you seen our web site:
