Controlling the Fuel / Air Ratio in a Boiler

03/24/2009 1:29 AM

Is it possible to control the fuel/air in a bagasse fuel boiler?

How is it possible to measure the bagasse flow?

It's possible to control the fuel/air ratio of just about anything..
hmmm, maybe with the exception of a forrest fire.

I dunno what bagasse is tho' (Although, the HR manager at my old company...she had one ... )

Ha, just looked it up, I'd guess you could choke the air supply based on weight of fuel being fed?

Yes. How about using oxygen trim control on the flue gases leaving it (rhetorical question)? The principle is to make sure there is negligible oxygen in the flue gases, thereby operating the boiler at maximum thermal efficiency. In that way, there is no need to measure the bagasse flow.

An oxygen instrument is needed for the flue, and some way of modulating the air entering near the burner. Then, with a correctly-programmed three-term controller, "Robert is your mother's brother".
