What's the Best Pool Treatment System?

03/27/2009 6:17 AM

Which is the best pool treatment system? Ozone system, Ioniser or UV system? (We normally use chemical dosing (calcium Hypo) or Chlorine Tablet as this is the most common and easy to maintain and cheaper than others but now we are been asked to provide more "Green Feature" treatment system)

Chlorine gas is green, Boss!

Calcium hypochlorite is wonderful - easy to store, doesn't go off, and its as cheap as chips.

Back when my brother worked for a pool/Jacuzzi place they pushed this stuff called baquaspa as a chlorine alternative, supposed to be a "green" alternative, In fact i believe it even comes in a green bottle!

Although the initial cost of an ozone system can be scarry, over time it will beat the cost of chemical treatment. There are two types of ozone generators- one using UV light and the other using coronal discharge. Maintenance costs for the coronal discharge types are a fraction of the cost of UV systems. The most common comment I hear from people who have adopted ozone is, "Gee, I don't feel like I need to take a shower when I finish swimming any more. The water actually feels CLEAN!" We also use ozone for treating potable water...

I use a salt generator system that converts NaCl into chlorine. It works great, softens the water and I put in about one 40lb bag of salt every 2 weeks in the summer and that bag costs $10.00! It can't be beat!!

Yes I agree wither the Guest contributor. I have had both salt and chlorine pools and salt is by far easier to control and cheaper. Especially here in Queensland Australia, where it get very hot and the chlorine evaporates quickly. Just have to check your converter occasionally and remove the sodium buildup.

I've used products called SoftSwim for pools, and SoftSoak for hot tubs. It's a lot less maintenance (once a week) than chlorine, doesn't smell, and doesn't turn your hair green.
