Nullifying of noise pollution

03/28/2009 5:51 AM

dear friends,

We have two many textile machineries (very new ones) to work with, which create lot of noise pollution. Could you please suggest me if there any equipment to nullify the whole noise of the machineries (say through any anti waves generation with same amplitude but in opposite direction). The db of the noise would be more than 100.

Rambkumar,

You have not specified what type of textile machines[spinning/weaving/processing ?],so as to assess the source of noise.Simple common sense solutions could be covering the work area to prevent propagation of sound via ,false ceilings, acoustic walls/doors,enclosed glass walled cabins with automatic doors and simply Ear Plugs.

Active noise cancellation works best if you are dealing with a single point, periodic noise source.

Trying to quiet a whole room full of machinery would be quite a chore, if not impossible.

You would need to treat each machine and get your cancellation as close as possible to the noise sources.

Unless the phase can be kept at exactly 180 degrees out, you could find yourself with more noise, not less.

Active noise cancelling, individual headsets will work but they are not cheap and would not be comfortable to wear all day.

Shields and enclosures may work better.

Good luck

Are you concerned about the noise inside the factory building or noise going outside the building?

It is the noise inside the machine room. An endless belt will be always in contact with about 400 spindles to run them. The hissing noise (due to friction) which come out from this contact is unavoidable. So its need to have some opposite / anti noise (with 180 degrees out of phase) to be created to nullify the machine noise, as this unbarable noise is creating lot of health problems to the work force who have to always monitor the position of the yarn that come out from the machine

Practical solution for this is ear muffs (I believe that is what it is called).

You may encourage them to try Sony head phones with noise cancellation feature. It will protect them and also will keep them happy.

By the way I am not from Sony! Just mentioned it because 2 days back I saw a program on TV which explained noise cancellation feature of Sony headphones on NDTV.

Use insulation spray on the walls. Have baffles in the ceiling. 100dB is really high - you must not be in the US - OSHA would have a heart attack.

EDIT: UK as well!

The Health & Safety Executive would close a UK factory on similar grounds.
