Leak Testing

We are doing leak test for an vibrational welded component. Can any body help me to fix the leak testing pressure and time. currently we are doing with 10psi for 10 seconds.

The solution that we have determined is to use "pressure decay" testing where the test units pressurise the item under test (DUT) and a dummy sealed unit of the same volume. (Dummy piece is usually brazed sealed tube)

Search for "pressure decay" testing gear and you'll find heaps. The typical machines will allow you to set pressure, acceptable differences, time and so on.

Note that for production testing you will probably find the most challenges with the interface to your DUT.

Vibrations welding can be wonderful, provided that the surfaces are parallel and well matched. There are some real "NO GO" concepts where vibration welding is definately inappropriate.

As Bob asked What is the problem ?

10 PSI for 10 Sec is a very relaxed way of doing a PT

Th duration and time of the PT depents on

a) What is the working condition ? fluid, temperature, pressure, vibration etc.

b) What is the fluid with which you are doing the PT (water, Kerosene, Air...)

c) What is the hazard rating - in case of an un-identified leakage what will be the effect

d) Are there any codes? Standard or Company that applies to this component ?

etc.

In case of these types (assuming you are using fuels or similar thing I will advise you to follow API)
