Programmable Gain Amplifier (PGA) Software

03/30/2009 7:59 AM

Hi,

I would like to amplify my 0.65 volt sine wave and square wave output from AD9833 to 10 Volts. I need to control the amplitude using software. The bandwidth of the signal is from DC to 2 Mhz. It should amplify atleast signals from DC to 2 Mhz. Could you please help me finding such an amplifier. The amplitude should be controlled in discrete steps. Pls help me

regards

Shine

You are already using an Analog Devices product. They also have PGAs. Check out their website. Check here:

How much is steps do you hope to amplify it? you can build it by yourself susing a N to 1 selector with some resistors net.

Your amplification coefficient is only about 12. Its easy for you to select IC. Im afraid LM 358 enough.

You're right cnpower, this is a fairly low gain - a standard and cheap op-amp will do. If he uses simple digital switching with resistors, he can get several levels of amplification. If he has a uCtrlr however, there are many PGAs that accept digital input for defining the gain. I LOVE THIS STUFF! I should have gone for an EE instead of ChE!

Hi

Thankyou., We decided to use a programmable resistor and suitable OPAMP with 30 GBW..I will let you know if its works..
