AISI310 vs. AISI310S

03/30/2009 11:53 PM

We have got an AISI310S plate 10mm thick instead of AISI310 plate. Can AISI310S replace AISI310 as except carbon all other eleMents are in same proportion. Application is a partiton plate in Reformed gas boiler exposed to temp. of 350-450 degree celcius. Whether both materials are having same life? What does S stands for? Is it SENSITISED or STANDARD or Superior?

definition 3rd para

Grade 310S is used when the application environment involves moist corrodents and in dry environments. The lower carbon content of 310S does reduce its high temperature strength compared to 310.

The suffix S shows low carbon steel varieties in old AISI designations.

Your application shows the 310S and not 310. However you are the best judge.
