9V Battery - Hermetically Sealed and ATEX Approved

03/31/2009 8:33 AM

Looking for a 9 Volt battery that is hermetically sealed(?) to be used in a device that will meet ATEX approval for safety.

Provided the device enclosure is either EEx d or EEx p then any-old-battery will do. PP3, for example?

Thank you, I'm checking on the enclosure status now. I believe the enclose was not built with any rating in mind at the time. Anyway, thank you, Bill

If the enclosure was not built with any rating in mind, then the only stuff that can go inside it is Simple Apparatus under EEx i. A 9V battery, being an energy-storing device, is not Simple Apparatus. Therefore no battery would be suitable for the task.

Check the requirements of the relevant ATEX standard, certain batteries can be used (in some cases and zones), BUT special requirements exist. You cannot buy a hazardous area battery and bung it in a box.

Check your standard to see what is and is not allowed.
